Back Home We Go!

The rumors are true…we are coming back to South Carolina!

Ok, so maybe there were not any actual rumors, but it’s still true!Ā

Kyle has accepted a position as the minister of music at Welcome Baptist Church in Greenville, and we are so excited to be a part of their community, and finally being closer to our families! We had not intended on leaving Hattiesburg so soon, but everything had somehow lined itself up perfectly to do so; our last classes are online, we were able to sell our house to a friend, and we were able to buy a house in South Carolina with the help of another friend and our family! Fun fact, we’ve seen the house once. Next week we officially move our stuff in!

So as you can imagine, that is part of the reason there has been such silence on the blog! That, and school work and teaching have kept me fairly busy. No excuse, I know.

Will I miss Hattiesburg? For sure. As someone who was dreading the idea of coming here in the first place, I can honestly say I am a little sad to leave. I’ve met some great people and there are some really awesome local eateries that I will be depressed about losing access to. I will also miss being so close to New Orleans, which has become one of my favorite cities to explore, specifically because of the food. Apparently there is a cajun restaurant in Greer…so we will definitely be checking that out. Most of all, I’ll miss teaching at Groove House!! Out of all of the private lesson studios I have worked at in my life, they are making a huge contribution to the world of music education.

As for me, I’m not quite sure what I will be doing yet! I’ve applied to a few things, but it is all still a mystery! Teaching jobs won’t really be open until the next school year, so we will see what the next chapter holds. šŸ™‚ What I do know is that both Kyle and I will be starting our dissertations, which I’m actually kind of excited about. I like writing, so that definitely works in my favor. I’m sure we will see how those feelings change over time. šŸ˜‰

I’m hoping to do better with blogging once the semester winds down! In fact, before the semester is over I will have TWO guest posts from some USM music education majors. I had the opportunity to talk to their Choral Methods class about character education and blogging, and for one of their assignments they had to submit a blog proposal on a topic they felt needing internet discussion! It was hard to choose just one…so I chose two! Keep an eye out for them! šŸ™‚

That’s the news for now. Looking forward to this new chapter back in South Carolina!
