And so it begins, the writing challenge! Day 1 is titled, “Declare.”

So here it is, my declaration! I am a writer, OK? There.

Just kidding. I remember in 5th grade, some of my friends were asking my teacher about different students to see what he knew about each of us. One girl said, “Ok, now…what about Lindsay? What does Lindsay like?” And he said, “Well, Lindsay likes music, and she likes to write.” My friend then laughed, “WRITE? Lindsay doesn’t like to write!!”

I actually did like to write, and I knew even in 5th grade that I was pretty decent at it! However, I chose to laugh along at my teacher and deny that that was one of my favorite activities. I guess writing was uncool? I have no idea. Regardless, I didn’t own up to being a writer then, so I think it’s high time I got to doing it now!

I have always been a writer. I journal, I write lyrics, I blog, I tweet, and I think my text messaging skills are some of the finest. While I pride myself in my ability to improvise a speech or conversation, and my tendency to bring comedy into any form of public speaking, I have found that I feel most comfortable expression myself in writing, whether that be text or in music. In some ways, that’s not always a good thing. In this case, for this writing challenge, it works very well to my benefit.

So there you have it. I’m a writer, because I said so.
